Here are questions we hear a lot. Please feel free to contact us with any other questions you may have.
Q: How many participants do you take?
A: The Urban Edge young adult transition program only limits participants in residence, maxing out at 8. While we love to have a "full house" our first priority is making sure that we are a good fit for Participants and vice versa.
Q: What types of Participants does Urban Edge accept?
A: Urban Edge admits young adults, male or female, who are interested in forging lasting mentoring partnerships to help achieve healthy and sustainable success. We work with young adults from 18-28 years of age.
Q: What is the average length of stay?
A: Length of stay at Urban Edge is completely individualized, but our average usually falls between 6-12 months.
Q: Do clients have access to their phones, iPods and computers?
A: Yes, and we always encourage an appropriate balance of electronics use.
Q: Can participants leave the property?
A: As adults, participants are free to come and go at will.
Q: Do you offer classes?
A: Participants can take classes at any of the educational venues in Denver. Urban Edge also offers a variety of “in-house” classes according to current interests. Classes may range from music, to art, to cooking, to blogging.
Q: Is Urban Edge a 12-step program?
A: While everything is case by case, for most Urban Edge clients substance abuse is not the primary struggle. Many clients have misused substances somewhere along their journey but we are not a 12 step recovery-based program. AA/NA meetings are available in the community for clients who find meetings helpful in their process.
Q: What about wellness...do Participants have access to fitness equipment?
A: Yes. They have passes to the gym, city bikes, the ski shuttle and engage in a plethora of outdoor activities.
Q: Are there group activities for the participants?
A: Yes. Participants join in many activities depending on the season. These include: Kayaking, hiking, whitewater rafting, swimming, biking, skateboarding, snowboarding, rock-climbing, camping, concerts, culinary classes, and yoga.
Q: Do you screen for drug and alcohol use?
A: Yes. Substance screenings are administered when participants are under suspicion of use.
Q: Do participants have access to a psychiatrist?
A: Yes, Urban Edge has a consulting psychiatrist who can also assume medication management.
